Newborn Session

TIPS FOR PLANNING YOUR NEWBORN SESSIONS

WHEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY NEWBORN SESSION?
It is best to schedule the newborn session to take place when the baby is 4-10 days old. During the first 7 days, this is when the baby sleeps alot, and can tolerate posing / changing into different clothes without waking him/her up. This is also a time when all of the newborn characteristics are very apparent: the wrinkly skin, curled up body, and the fresh new innocent look. After 7 days, the newborn would be more aware of his/her surroundings and would not be as sleepy. After 14 days, many newborn characteristics would start to fade as newborn’s development is very fast. Thus, it is best to schedule the newborn session as early as possible.

WHERE SHOULD THE NEWBORN SESSION TAKE PLACE?
The newborn session can either take place at your home or in my studio. If the session is in your home I would bring portable background stands and backdrops along with studio lighting equipment if needed. Besides using the backdrops, I would also make use of your home environment (eg: furnitures, beds, chairs, sofas, cribs, towels, blankets) to create the portraits.

HOW LONG DOES THE NEWBORN SESSION TAKES?
The newborn session would take roughly 2-2.5 hours with breaks in between. It is going to be a very relaxing session and my aim is to take as many beautiful portraits of you and your newborn as possible, with no definite time constraint. It is best to schedule the session at a time when the baby is well fed and most happy. You could also feed the baby upon my arrival or during my setup. Please don’t hesitate to let me know when you need a break to change or feed the baby.

WHAT SHOULD MY NEWBORN WEAR?  I would prefer to take photos of your newborn without clothes to create the classic bare skin newborn portraits. Bare skin is best for newborn portraits. I can use wraps so your baby isn’t nude if preferred.

I would take photos of the newborn’s hands and feet and ears-the little details. To take bare skin shots, a heater is required at your home and we would need to warm up the room HIGH UP 20 minutes prior to the shoot to ensure the newborn is warm and comfy!

I have a variety of blankets in which I can use also and for the girls I also have a selection of headbands which are really cute to use.

WHAT WILL YOU SHOOT?
As your newborn portrait photographer, I would capture all the beautiful details of your new baby. The following are some shots I will take:

  • closeups of your newborn’s little hands and feet
  • portraits of your newborn
  • daddy holding the newborn in his arms
  • mommy holding the baby
  • family portrait
